The novel addresses key politcal, societal, and military issues including the inherant dangers of off-shore outsourcing, the dangers of uncontrolled borders, the impact of unbridled military downsizing, the pitfalls of over reliance on high technology, methods of applying "Homeland Security" so as to avoid abuse, and how firm societal moral foundations make a pivotal difference in a nation's ability to maintain a prolonged war effort.
